'The Narrow World'

Gemma is working with Melanie Wilson on a film and performance project exploring female empowerment in Tunisia and the UK. The work will be developed in Tunis, where both artists will work with Tunisian women to explore how Shakespeare can be used as a provocation to explore the question of what it is to be a woman.

A two-week supported platform to continue experimental research with dance artist Laura Murphy, along with invited artists Rogerio Nuno Costa (PT, performance artist ), Replika Centre for Educational Theatre, RO. A sharing of process was presented at Replika on 29.7.15.

An Evening with Primrose
June 2015

Two weeks spent developing video elements for An Evening with Primrose by Abigail Conway at National Theatre Studios. Exploring ideas around time, circadian rhythms and the very act of waiting, this R&D put the evening primrose plant in the spotlight.

Tate Modern: Tate Thought Workshops publication launch.

One 30 individuals selected to take part in a year-long programme of dialogue around the idea of change with Tate and Quarantine. Our final meeting at Tate Modern presented a new publication for the project.

Tate Thought Workshops come to a close

Since July 2013 i have been participating in a Tate Live initiative that brings together people from a range of disciplines to discuss the idea of change. The project reaches completion this weekend with a public panel discussion chaired by John McGrath (Artistic Director, National Theatre of Wales) including panelists Shami Chakrabarti and Ben Okri. On Sunday we will have our closing workshop led by Quarantine.

Sept 2013
Film work created in collaboration with dance artist Laura Murphy will form part of an exhibition at the Cork Film Centre in September 2013. The exhibition will also include work by Monique Besten.

Selection for Tate Thought Workshops

Gemma has been selected to be one of the 30 participants in the most recent incarnation of the BMW Live: Tate Thought Workshops. The project will bring the participants together to explore the theme of change through ideas in art, thought, technology and more. The workshops will being in July 2013 and span through to March 2014.

Selection for screening in Hastings' Coast Currents Arts Festival

Two films produced in collaboration with dance artist Laura Murphy were selected for a screening on Sunday 22nd September as part of the Coastal Currents Arts Festival in Hastings.

Gemma was invited to Totaldobze Art Centre in Riga, Latvia, to perform at Urban Poetry - an event that brings together poets, visual artists and musicians for an improvised jam.
April 2013: E-Motional Festival at MNAC, Bucharest

Gemma travels to Bucharest in April to participate in the last of three residencies within the European mobility initiative E-Motional Bodies and Cities. The project culminates in a festival which brings together all the strands and activities within the last two years of the project.
